You have enough to carry. Debt should not be part of it.
Somewhere between the diagnosis and today, the financial system kept going. The creditors kept calling. The ATO kept sending letters. You should not be dealing with any of that. Life Without Debt takes it off your plate entirely, so the energy you have left can go to the people who need you most.
If you are not sure whether we can help, apply anyway. We will tell you honestly what we can do, and if we are not the right fit, we will point you to someone who is.
Built for one specific group of Australians.
Life Without Debt was built for people with terminal or serious illness, and for the families and carers around them. If you are unsure whether your situation qualifies, apply anyway. We will assess honestly and let you know.
We can help if you...
- Have received a terminal or life-limiting diagnosis and carry personal debt
- Are a partner, spouse, or immediate family member of someone with a terminal illness, and the debt affects your household
- Are a carer applying on behalf of someone who is too unwell to manage this process themselves
- Are dealing with ATO debt, bank loans, credit cards, or debt collectors and a terminal or serious illness is central to your situation
- Have tried to negotiate with creditors yourself and have not been able to make progress
- Are in any state or territory in Australia
- Are a bereaved family member dealing with debt left behind, including joint debts, ATO liabilities, business debts, or guarantor obligations triggered by a partner's or parent's death. We call this Sexually Transmitted Debt (STD) and it is within our scope.
We are not the right fit if...
- Your situation does not involve terminal or serious illness as a primary factor
- Your primary need is business insolvency administration (we can refer you)
- You are seeking commercial legal representation in court
- Your debt situation is fully managed and stable and you want general financial planning
- You are outside Australia
Not sure? Apply anyway. The worst that happens is we tell you honestly who can better help, and we will always point you in the right direction.
Simple. Clear. Human.
No bureaucratic maze. No waiting room. No being passed from department to department. Here is what happens after you submit your application.
You Apply
Complete the short, confidential form below. It takes about 10 minutes. There are no wrong answers and no trick questions.
We Call You
A qualified team member reviews your application and contacts you directly, by phone or email, whichever you prefer. You will speak to a real person.
We Plan Together
We talk through your situation, explain what is possible, and agree on the approach. You stay informed at every step. Nothing happens without your permission.
We Take It From Here
Our licensed practitioners negotiate directly with your creditors. You do not make the calls. You do not write the letters. You go back to the people who need you present.
Tell us about yourself
We need a little basic information so we can reach you and understand your context. All fields marked * are required.
You might be wondering...
We have answered the questions people most often ask before they apply. If yours is not here, email us at [email protected]
No. Applying to Life Without Debt is completely private. We will never contact any of your creditors, employers, or family members without your explicit written permission. When our licensed practitioners do approach creditors, they do so on your behalf under the protections of the National Consumer Credit Protection Act.
We are honest. If we assess that our services are not the best fit for your situation, we will tell you clearly and point you towards whoever can help most. There is no embarrassment in that. Our goal is your outcome, not our caseload numbers.
Yes. Court judgments, garnishments, and enforcement actions do not disqualify you. In fact, they often indicate you need help most urgently. Tell us about any legal proceedings in your application and we will treat your case as a priority.
Yes. We regularly work with family members, carers, and social workers who are applying on behalf of a person who is too unwell to manage this process themselves. Please note in your application that you are acting on someone else's behalf and describe your relationship briefly. We may ask for a letter of authority before proceeding.
Absolutely. Apply with what you know. We can help you identify creditors, obtain statements, and work out the full picture once we have spoken. Part of our job is helping people understand the landscape of their debt, not just managing it once they do.
Every case is different. Simpler arrangements with a single creditor can be resolved in 4 to 8 weeks. Complex cases involving multiple creditors or ATO negotiations can take 3 to 9 months. We will give you an honest estimate once we have assessed your situation, and we will stay with you throughout, however long it takes. For cases involving very short medical timelines, we move as fast as the creditors allow.
None. Not now, not later, not in any form. We are a charity funded entirely by donors. Charging clients would defeat the entire purpose of our existence. The only thing we ask of you is that you are honest with us, so we can do the best possible job.
